We offer an opportunity to exploit both your business and architectural skills and competences within enterprise data lake, statistical computing environment and business intelligence solutions as back-end to data analytics and visualization work.

You will be responsible for hands on design and transition into new technical infrastructure so that analytics and data visualization solutions leverage fully from newly established Enterprise Data Lake and Statistical Computing Environment hosting clinical, operational and enterprise data. You will be driving and ensuring that data visualization and reporting requirement benefit from robust data ingestion, lineage, and modeling. Facilitation of new requirements, continuous development and programming of back end ETL-like scripts, data flow surveillance to support applications in the data visualization platform (Qlik Sense). This includes full utilization of your skill set as “architect” to design back-end data layers and working environments, and “developer” to program the relevant back-end tables and views bridging the data lake and visualization layers.

You will be subject matter expert in:

  • Data modeling needs, the underlying business processes, the data sources and relevant integrations with source systems (e.g. EDC, CTMS, IRT, ePRO, IRT, CDISC, Safety, QMS, TMF, Project Mgmt., 3rd party/vendor data) to ensure a high degree of leverage from existing and new data sources as new systems and new 3rd party data feeds become relevant

  • Implementing, managing, and optimizing working environment within Enterprise Data Lake and Statistical Computing Environment platforms as the organization transitions out of legacy data repositories

  • Implementing, managing, and optimizing agile and DevOps framework in a GxP and operational context given the intended use and range of data visualization and reporting needs, and understanding the impact is has in platform qualification and application validation requirements

  • Data visualization and business intelligence functionality and best practice (data connectors, extensions, features, components and optimal platform configuration)

  • Data flow surveillance and data quality metrics and signals alerting of data GAPs, both missing data and quality of data

  • Use case identification, assessment and agile prototyping of solutions leveraging quickly from an optimized data flow

You have both hands-on consultancy experience and development/ programming experience in visualization tools (preferably Qlik and Snowflake, but not limited to those). You are an expert in assessing how to best fulfil data requirements and facilitating data review, analysis and reporting via interactive “point and click”, “drill down” solutions and the traditional formatted outputs supporting management reporting tracks. You constantly think out of the box and with your internal customer in mind to ensure solutions are fit for purpose and deliver high business value.

You will work towards achieving a best-in-class back-end to our clinical trial data flow and front-end data visualization functionality. The position is new and you will have high influence on the global analytics & visualization roll out, set-up and processes and will report to the Sr. Director, Trial Analytics, Solutions & Innovation.


  • Continued development and maintenance of back-end application portfolio supporting with data visualization and reporting

  • Lead and facilitate business requirements, collect needs, assess and propose a way forward, including prototyping and Proof of Concept efforts

  • Holistic and deep understanding of dataflow and solutions architectures

  • Hands on data flow mapping and architectural design to support transitions from “as is” towards “to be” scenarios

  • Hands on data modelling and design of back end (ETL scripting) and front-end (UI expressions, configuration) layers

  • End to end project management of content, functionality and feature roll out inc. including planning, development, validation and implementation activities

  • Engage with peers in the department to harmonize transition from current data sources/locations towards data gradually being provisioned via new platforms (e.g. Statistical Computing Environment and Enterprise Data Lake)

  • Engage with data visualization leads to support their data source needs and ensure data provisioning is “as good as it can be”: relevant, timely and accurate

  • Engage and developer roles and resources within the area of responsibility in the application portfolio, in the development and implementation of standard and customized solutions

  • Design, coordinate and execute training activities both as F2F/ virtual calls as well as giving input to eLearning material facilitated by Training department

  • Ensure consistent and quality implementation and use of the visualization platform across trials

  • Daily oversight of end-to-end dataflow, feeding into and reporting out of the applications, incl. oversight and execution of troubleshooting as needed

  • Ensure data flow and working environment is kept in validated state. Design associated processes and work instructions. Lead periodic reviews, risk assessments, issue management, problem mgmt., etc.

  • Collaborate and liaise towards Corporate IT roles to ensure system (IT platform) is kept updated and in a validated state, and living to the expectations of the visualization work (upgrades configurations, functionality, extensions, add-ons)

  • Contribute to optimizing the development model for application and visualization delivery (stack of SOPs, WIs and associated material regarding development and validation methodology and agile best practices)


  • Have a master’s degree in natural sciences, computer sciences or similar and 5 years work experience from the pharmaceutical industry

  • Extensive experience and in depth understanding of clinical and operational data managed within a clinical trial context, data flow and data review and management reporting requirements

  • Extensive ETL experience. It is a great advantage to have concrete and deep experience on technologies such both Qlik Sense and Snowflake

  • Good knowledge and understanding of ICH-GCP

  • Good understanding of scientifically and operationally driven needs and use cases

  • Understanding of management reporting best practices, both content and workflow wise

  • Visualization and report development and configuration

  • Data interchange and data integrity (standards, methods, technology)

  • Understanding of raw and CDISC clinical data model and standards

  • Ability to handle short timelines and dare to challenge teams and improve business requirements

  • Have a good understanding of clinical development and clinical trial portfolio analysis and reporting requirements with a proven track record in delivering results via teamwork in a cross-cultural setting
