The position
As Data Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and guidance for solving use cases and delivering solutions to the line of business. Our data lake consists of data acquisition/ ingestion, transformation and storage build on various AWS services such as EMR, S3, Redshift and Lambda. You will collaborate with our Cloud Developers to improve and evolve our infrastructure to leverage the latest technologies available. Furthermore, you will play a key role in executing an efficient development process and automated monitoring of pipeline operations and data quality.

In this role you will work on one or more projects that are focused on building data pipelines, to bring more data into our data lake. And we mean all kinds of data – including research, clinical, production and business data. Under the guidance of your colleagues, you’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the business, including external suppliers. You’ll also contribute to the ongoing improvement of our infrastructure, constantly seeking innovative solutions.

You will be expected to be able to quickly understand complex technical matters, and proactively drive your continued technical development. As you encounter new ideas worth exploring, you’ll need to be able to form opinions and convince others to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Qualifications and background 
You have a bachelor or master’s degree in a relevant field and some knowledge of cloud-based data lake and big data technologies.

You have

  • hands-on experience with extraction and wrangling of data
  • some experience working with SQL databases, ideally using contemporary cloud technologies.
  • programming skills in Python
  • some experience with Linux, Bash scripting and command line operations.
  • experience working in a regulated industry or are eager to learn what this entails,

It is an advantage if you have a good understanding of CI/CD and DevOps methodologies as well as experience with AWS tools. Further training in innovative tools will be provided.

Your technical experience can come from a variety of data solutions. Most important is that you understand the technologies involved in the components that comprise the data lake, data science, ML and AI solutions, and you know how these are integrated.

You are curious by nature, have a sincere interest in exploring new technologies. You would enjoy being part of a team where it is important to have fun and where we work in a collaborative and trusting atmosphere. Fluent spoken and written English is a prerequisite.

Since you will be working in a global environment, you must expect some meetings to take place outside Danish working hours and some travel activity (post COVID-19).

The position is based in Bagsværd, Denmark.

About the department
You will join our international team of architects, developers, analysts, and data engineers. The Data Management & Analytics team is a global, high performing team with a variety of technical and analytical backgrounds. Our responsibilities cover data acquisition and ingestion; data analysis and data engineering; evangelising the use of data and advanced analytics; and supporting data science users of our platform.

We are cloud native and we work primarily on AWS. We deliver solutions using Scrum methodology. We have built and are operating the enterprise data lake and data science platform on AWS to support our vision, which is to be able to deliver world class management of data.

The overarching goal is to use data to gain new understandings and insights, drive optimisations and create true value to Novo Nordisk and the patients we serve.

We are currently 40 internal and external employees in three different locations in India, USA, and Denmark. We are expanding our offerings to the global organization, particularly in the data engineering space, so we need extra resources to succeed with our journey and ambitious vision.
