Student Worker for Data Pipelines

Zendesk is looking for a student developer to join our Data Pipelines team. Our team is responsible for building the platform that powers data analytics for Zendesk’s self-service products. The software we write is used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, and we want to find a student who is interested in learning about distributed systems at scale.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity take part in different phases of the software lifecycle. You will work 15 hours per week starting in February, collaborating closely with team members to build data products at Zendesk. You will pair with software engineers to learn about our technology stack and architecture.

This position focuses on building scalable applications, improving your skills and giving you on-the job training in a fast-paced software engineering organization.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working in a team of dedicated, humble engineers
  • Writing and deploy production-grade code
  • Participating in the entire product development process for data analytics products, from design, to coding, to operation in production
  • Presenting your work to a global, multi-disciplinary audience

What you bring to the role

  • An open, thoughtful, and empathetic approach to working with others
  • A desire to continually learn and share technical skills
  • An understanding that communicating about technical solutions is just as important as coming up with them in the first place
  • Basic coding skills in any language like Ruby or Java and the ability to learn quickly.
  • Basic familiarity with Unix tools and version control systems such as Git

  • We use Kafka and Kafka streams to replicate data across our platform
  • Our core applications are written in Ruby and Scala
